Crackle Painted Clay: Chapter 2

New note about using the crackle painted clay. I have discovered it is DEFINITELY best to use the clay soon after completing the crackle process. I was working on new fish today with a student. She saw the original fish (see post below) and wanted to create one of her own.

As we were going through the steps I picked up a piece of crackle painted clay from 4 days ago. I cut the sheet into small triangles to inlay with cane slices on my fish. As I was rolling the layers together I kept feeling little bits of "something" rolling across the clay. As I looked closer I realized the paint was peeling off! I guess I left it on the table a bit too long before using it. I am so used to leaving unfinished pieces on my clay table FOREVER that didn't even dawn on me that it could possibly work against me {:-0 Now I know better and am hopefully saving all of you the frustration of paint crumbs.

Please note, the crackle only peels off if the clay in UNBAKED. Once baked, the paint adheres beautifully.

More later. Happy claying!
